Lincoln centre Rep: Nichola Beat

LCM and RGT exams run 3 times a year.

Information for Local teachers:

Entering candidates at Lincoln:

LCM holds exam sessions 3 times a year; spring, summer and winter. We always request a date for an examiner to attend our premise at The Music Tutor in Lincoln where one of our teaching studios becomes an exam room for the week. Our centre provisionally books exam dates at the beginning of each year:

Spring exams are usually just before/after the Easter holidays.

Summer exams are usually at the beginning of July (just after GCSE /A level exams and just before schools break up).

Winter exams are usually at the end of November, a week before the Christmas market opens in Lincoln.

Please note the dates above are for guidance only. We are unable to confirm any set dates until entries for the session are received by LCM and the closing date has passed. Should you have any question and wish to find out more information you can always contact me before making any entries. If you are entering students for any exams please enter online or send a completed LCM entry form with a cheque to cover the correct fee to: Mrs Nichola Beat LCM Representative, The Music Tutor LTD,1 Wyvern House, Kesteven Street, Lincoln, LN5 7LH. Cheques should be payable to UNIVERSITY OF WEST LONDON. If you are entering more than one candidate please try to put the fees on one cheque. Please make sure that your entry arrives before the closing date or late fees will be incurred.

 Before the exam:

Exam appointments are usually between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday. It is important to let candidates know that time out from school/work will be necessary to attend their exam in Lincoln. An attendance notice will be sent to you for each candidate via email aprox. 4 weeks before the exam date. This proof can be copied and taken to school/work requesting time off. Please read all the information on the attendance notice.  LCM requires you to print the attendance notice and bring it to your exam along with photo ID.

IMPORTANT: Please note that it is now compulsory to provide proof of identity. Please read carefully section 6 on the attendance notice. If children do not have photo ID a signature will be required by a parent/guardian on arrival at the centre.

Please remember to either have a list with the songs to be performed on the back of the attendance notice or in a performance programme for music theatre students.

During an exam day:

If you are travelling by car and wish to park we request that the main pay and display car park located in Tentercroft Street is used. Use LN5 7DB for Sat Nav directions (see attached map for our location). Please be advised that the private car park at Wyvern house must not be used and is strictly for staff with a permit. Off street parking is also available but limited on Kesteven street and Portland street.

On arriving at our centre you will find a reception with teaching studios leading off the main area. On the examination day a studio is transformed into an exam room. A quiet room is available if parents/guardians wish to stay on the premise with light refreshments offered at a small charge.

The exam room will be equipped with a good quality (transposing) digital piano, stool, music stand, keyboard stand, backed chair and power source.

There is a warm up room available with a piano and seating. Candidates are reminded not to arrive any earlier than 15 minutes prior to their appointment time as the warm up room can get too busy. It is important that we offer equal opportunities for each candidate to warm up however it is reminded that this time is not for full rehearsals!

It is recommended that an accompanist comes prior to the exam date for me to show them how to use the transpose function (if necessary) as there is not always time during an exam day.

Candidates can also visit us to see where they will be taking their exam and see how much space there is for subjects like music theatre where you need to move about. Please call before visiting to check that I’m available or a member of staff can show you around.

After exam day:

Results can arrive up to 28 days after an exam date. Usually we know within 1 or 2 weeks depending on how busy the exam period has been.  Marks and report forms with the examiners comments are sent to teachers in the post. Please note that certificates come separately to report forms.
